Sizzlefish – flash frozen fish, resonable prices, fast delivery

Here in the middle of bone-dry Arizona, getting fresh-tasting, line-caught fish can be a real challenge.

That’s why I’ve relied on Sizzlefish for years now to sail in and save the day. This company delivers to my door some of the best fish I’ve ever tasted. The incredible flavor of their fish comes real close to what my dad used to catch fresh when I was growing up in the Puget Sound area.

Sizzlefish started over 30 years ago in Ayden, North Carolina. The company sold fresh-caught fish to upscale grocery stores and restaurants around the country. Lucky for us home cooks, they’ve decided to offer some of their products directly to consumers via their quick and easy online store.

When it comes to food distributors, I have to be able to trust the vendor. That’s especially true with fish. These days, there seems to be a lot of fraud in the industry. For example, studies released not long ago from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Oceana (an international ocean advocacy organization) revealed that as much as 90 percent of the fish sold in America is imported, and worse, much of that fish is raised in industrial farms that aren’t well-regulated. Also, you may not be getting the fish you paid for – around 28 percent of the fish Oceana tested was incorrectly labeled, and over half of that mislabeled fish (around 58 percent) was a health risk.

There are however a few reliable fish distributors. Sizzlefish is the one topping my list right now. This is a company you can trust for flash frozen fish, reasonably priced, and delivered quickly to you. Ordering is a breeze online. Your fish arrives in individual packets frozen solid and packed with dry ice inside a cooler – simply transfer the fish to your freezer, and you’re all set.

One of the great things about Sizzlefish is you’re not locked into one type of fish. You get to choose from a number of tasty fish and shellfish variety packs to keep things interesting.

Almost all the fish Sizzlefish sells is wild-caught. Just a few are farm raised: the rainbow trout, the catfish, and the Atlantic salmon. I’m still a little leery of farmed-raised fish myself, so I just stick with Sizzlefish’s sustainable line-caught varieties from the open seas.
