Paleo Smoked Salmon Salad

Growing up just a fly cast away from the waters of Puget Sound in Washington, I can’t remember a time when there wasn’t smoked salmon in our family’s fridge.

My dad was a hunter and gatherer long before it was called paleo, and salmon was a favorite he routinely brought back to our cave.

Trina, age 12, with a fresh-caught salmonI even snagged a few myself – that’s me at about age 12 showing off an 18-pounder reeled in from the Sound.

I remember dad firing up the old backyard smoker and carefully laying those cured salmon filets across the stacks of wire racks and letting the smouldering wood chips work their magic for hours to bring all those wonderful natural flavors together.

It’s too bad I don’t own a smoker these days. Ah but my neighbor does, so I sweet-talked him into smoking up a couple of skin-on filets for this super-easy smoked salmon salad.

This is an incredibly tasty dish that couldn’t be easier to make once you’ve got ahold of some good smoked salmon.

You simply combine the greens and veggies, put the smoked salmon and bacon bits on top, then drizzle everything with the light and lemony dressing.

Nothing fancy, but so, so good – especially if you’re a real smoked salmon lover like me.

Give this easy paleo recipe a try…and as always, love hearing your comments! [av_sidebar widget_area=’Lockerdome’ av_uid=’av-2xxalg’]

I’ve said it before, but your recipes are BY FAR THE BEST Paleo recipes I’ve ever had! I don’t even go to other sites anymore and I eat 100% paleo. Your recipes are fueling my healthy body and I will never be able to thank you enough! I’m so excited to take my Paleo ways to Washington! :)

    1. Carrie, That is so cool! Where will you be living? I lived near the Narrows bridge at Titlow Beach. There’s a little local favorite at the bottom of 6th avenue called Steamers. Have the halibut and chips and enjoy the view. It’s one of my favorite places in Tacoma. I lived across from the tennis courts in the house that has a little creek running down the side. I hope you like it there. It can be a little gray at times, but sunny days are what make it worth it. :) Keep in touch and tell me how you like smoked salmon!

I am looking forward to my move and will likely end up living in Olympia, south of JBLM and closest to my family in Portland. I will definitely check out Steamers, though! Sounds so yummy!! PLEASE let me know of any other great places to check out! I also love to hike and bike, so any recommendations in the recreation/fitness department would be so appreciated, too! :)

  2. I too grew up a stone’s throw from the Sound. We usually spent our days at Edmond’s public beach or near the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry terminal. I have recently moved to southern Idaho but just spent a couple of week taking my family up to see our friends and family. I came home with some smoked kokani (land-locked salmon) and this salad is perfect. Thank you!

    1. Hey Leah…That is so cool! It’s so great to have a person like you comment on the life we were so lucky to experience as kids. What a gift to have the Puget Sound as our playground. I miss it every day! :) Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the salad!

  3. Simply and delicious – this is right up my alley. Love me some smoked salmon!
