Cinnamon Raisin Harvest Muffins

My friend at work has been eating whole foods and trying new recipes for her family. She asked me if I knew of a healthy cinnamon-raisin recipe of some kind. She got me thinking…

Since I have been eating Paleo, I miss things like cinnamon raisin toast, oatmeal and raisins, and even Raisin Bran. What I really wanted was that sweet cinnamon-raisin taste without the grains, dairy and refined sugars.

I came up with this paleo and gluten-free muffin recipe after a few failed attempts to get just the right cinnamon and raisin flavor I was longing for. The first batch wasn’t too bad, but not great. I don’t want to post an average recipe on my blog. I really want it to be exceptional so you’ll try it and come back for more! So I went back to work in the kitchen for more experiments and family taste tests. [av_sidebar widget_area=’Lockerdome’ av_uid=’av-2boisg’]

I’m very happy with this cinnamon-raisin muffin recipe now. I added a shredded apple and the raw maple syrup which really helped bring everything together. And a lot more raisins. Dried fruit is not especially Paleo I know, but my son said, if you’re gonna make a raisin muffin mom, there should be some in every bite. Good point. And besides, the raisins seem to soak up a little of the maple flavor to make every bite that much more wonderful. So now I’m all in with the raisins in this recipe. Plus both my son and hubby wanted a little more spice, so I notched that up a bit too.

I know its summertime, but the aroma and flavors of these muffins remind me of a fall harvest…the fact we live in Arizona and it’s 110 degrees right now may have something to do with it.

But healthy and hearty muffins are always in season if you ask me. I hope you give this easy paleo muffin recipe a try sometime and let me know what you think!

  1. I would love to know what I could substitute the Almond Flour? I am allergic to Almond and a few other nuts. Thank you! I look forward to being able to try these.

    1. Hi Corey…I’d suggest trying either oat flour or sesame seed flour. However, I don’t how much of either of those you’d need to sub out the coconut flour in this particular recipe, but at least I hope that points you in the right direction. Thanks much for visiting paleo newbie!

I made these for my Paleo-loving brother and after he had one, he asked if I’d bring him a batch every time I came to visit. I added walnuts and sunflower seeds, so yummy! You’re the best, Trina. Your recipes are still my absolute go-to ones! :)

    1. Thank you Carrie! I’m so happy your brother enjoyed! I love your addition of sunflower seeds and walnuts. Yum! :)

  3. They seem delicious! Cant wait to try them!
I’m from the Netherlands though and it’s nearly impossible to find any coconut flour, is there something I can replace it with?

    1. Thassia, Wow, that’s a bummer! I can’t give you a sub since coconut flour is so different than other flours. My banana chocolate chip muffins are all almond flour though. Maybe that’s worth a try? :)

  4. Can I make these in a regular pan, instead of a muffin pan? I currently only have one muffin pan that makes 6 muffins, but I really want to make this! TIA!

    1. I think they would be fine in whatever type of pan you use. Let me know how it goes!

  5. Hi there! I featured this recipe on my healthy fall recipe round up today. Thanks for the great inspiration! http://physicalkitchness.com/healthy-paleo-fall-recipes/

  8. I’m going to try these with cashew flour, instead of almond since that’s what I tolerate better. I’ll let you know how it goes! I made some carrot ones recently in a similar fashion and ate every one down to the last bite. Yum!

    1. Great idea Kris! That’s great info to share for people with allergies to Almond flour. Thank you! :)
